How does CBT work?

CBT is a structured therapy that helps you understand the connection between your thoughts, feelings, and behaviours.

1

Identify unhelpful thoughts

Work with your therapist to recognise patterns of negative thinking that might be holding you back.

2

Challenge these thoughts

Learn techniques to question and reframe these thoughts into more constructive perspectives.

3

Practice new behaviours

Apply what you’ve learned in real-life situations, reinforcing positive changes and breaking old habits.

4

Build long-term strategies

What our clients say

Read about people’s experiences of working with NOSA and how specialist CBT support helped them understand their difficulties and take practical steps forward

James has a really good mix of method and empathy in his therapy. He will reassure you when things are tough but also remind you of the progress you are making and what you have learned. I really believe I have developed solid foundations to manage my mental health and cope with the inherent uncertainty in life.

H T

I finally found a therapist in James, who I really felt cared and invested in me and my recovery. Not only did he create a comfortable and safe environment to talk inside, he also came out with me to my ‘panicy situations’, so that he could understand my triggers as they happened. He helped me see that I could take on my anxiety and embrace it.

Still Unsure About Starting CBT?

You can start by contacting NOSA through the website or by phone. We will review your enquiry and, where appropriate, let you know the next step, which may include arranging an initial consultation or contacting you when suitable availability becomes available.

Yes. NOSA provides Cognitive Behavioural Therapy in Bristol, with support from a specialist CBT therapist where suitable. We will discuss your needs, explain the treatment process, and recommend the most appropriate way to begin.

Your first appointment is a chance to understand what has been happening, how it affects your daily life, and what you would like to change. From there, your therapist can begin to map the patterns keeping the problem going and suggest a clear treatment plan.

CBT helps you understand the connection between thoughts, feelings, physical sensations and behaviours. Treatment then focuses on practical steps that help you respond differently, reduce avoidance and build confidence over time.

Specialist CBT may be right for you if anxiety is affecting your choices, routines, relationships or confidence. If you are considering cognitive behavioural therapy in Bristol, an initial consultation can help you decide whether this approach is the right fit.
